Laura Bilotta is a popular radio and TV host, dating coach and author who resides in Oakville, Ontario. She is the founder of a successful speed dating and matchmaking business, Single in the City. Although this gregarious woman is incredibly busy, she still finds time to write good compelling stories on her blog, and publish artistic social media gems everyday on her @Laura_Bilotta Instagram.
Last year, in Feb 2017, Laura published a self help book, Single in the City: From Hookups & Heartbreaks to Love & Lifemates, Tales & Tips to Attract Your Perfect Match.
As a very social business owner, Laura is also the most active writer behind Single in the City’s Dating and Relationship Blog. This on-site web journal was born many years ago, but faded to some extent during the rise of Facebook, and has now rebounded with new relevance to become a popular urban lifestyle content portal. Such is the demand for her wisdom and anecdotes that fresh pieces of content get thousands of same day readers. Older, more venerated posts with popular search terms in the titles consistently bring hundreds more readers each month. These core-content articles transcend the blog to find an international readership on search engines; they are pg1 search results on Google for some powerful cultural memes. Ask the search engine, are Toronto men shy? and you will see Single in the City’s perspective on this strangely popular question.
Laura believes the rise in readership can be directly attributed to the increased energy she now applies to making each post. She kicked it up a notch last fall when she hired Danielle McKay to manage events and help her make social media magic across Single in the City’s many channels. Working together Laura and Danielle have adopted a three step process whereby they invite, execute and then blog for posterity the company’s best Singles Events. Look for blog posts that have titles that begin with words like, ‘What Happened at…’ These event summaries often show exclusive behind the scene pictures and relate amusing stories. Here’s where Laura lists preparations and describes the aftermath of some of the company’s more elaborate events.
Looking back today, you can see the shift – the Single in the City blog became more compelling when Laura started more actively chronicling her events to showcase sponsors and describe in her own words, some of the most outrageous spectacles she created for her membership. Laura created ‘Singles Golf Lessons’, and ‘Singles Pizza-making Night’ and every summer she hosts a moonlit SUP tour of Toronto Island, as well as a Caribbean Boat Cruise (in Toronto harbour). In the summer of 2016 the influential blogger wrote a long copy post on the subject of Green Singles.
In general, Single in the City’s Dating and Relationship Blog focuses on the myriad issues that people of all ages experience in modern dating. The blog posts detail new-age social phenomenon including Ghosting, Mosting, and Tinder etiquette. Laura writes about the challenges of finding a work life balance while dating, and what’s normal or no longer acceptable in polite society. The blog reviews dating apps, texting rituals and bad emoticons and even explores the latest Augmented Reality devices. Laura likes reviewing and sharing new technologies that can improve the chances of people finding love, and or improve the quality of their time together.
